A Spring in the Step over to Hobbybook..

I am so excited, I just can't hide it !!!!

This is my first DT card for the Hobbybook Designer Challenge that you can find  HERE and only the second challenge on the blog. There is a new challenge every fortnight beginning on a Wednesday and this fortnight has the theme of SPRING...

For my card I decided to use Just for You which you can find HERE. I decided to use blues and yellows to colour her and just for fun decided to use the two colours for her hair too. I printed and coloured four identical images using promarkers and cut them out..I then decided which ones to use for which layers and cut bits off each one except the first to decoupage them up. I layered them with sticky pads, I prefer to decoupage with silicone but I was worried that it would show through the card that had been coloured. This was then mounted on a 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of card with a matching blue and a subtle blue design. Finally I cut an A5 piece of acetate along the long edge to the same height of the card and scored approximately an inch in from each of the short end. The short sides were then folded at the score lines and the resulting flaps stuck under the card at each side and this was then attached to a card blank the same size...ending up with a bowed piece of acetate over the design. I found some matching flowers and stuck them under the acetate in one corner and stuck some butterflies on the acetate to look as if they were flying....voila...one pretty Spring card...
showing the acetate over the card and depth of the layers...

I hope that this shows her eyes, although I use promarkers for most of the colouring
I like to use a black sakura glaze pen for pupils and after some advice from a friend
I also used it for the eyelashes...I wish mascara worked on me so well...

Sorry about the blurriness but I was trying for a close up of the feet. I like to decoupage the shoes as well
but I don't like them too raised or they just look too big...and so...
I either glue them straight onto the feet or, as I did with these, I use sticky dots to stick them...

The butterflies just finish the whole card off...

I hope that you have liked this card and have maybe been inspired to join us in the challenge.
Thank you for dropping by and if you would like to leave a message
it would make me smile muchly... xxx

I love light bulb moments....

Good afternoon/,morning/evening...(delete as appropriate...), I thought I would do a quick blog post to let you share in my light bulb moment....

As part of my DT day on SDD I have a Try Something New section...this can be anything, sometimes something very simple, sometimes more complicated, a new card shape, a new technique, a new bit of stash. This week I was going to just use my glue gun for the first time, I got it a couple of years before moving here to Ireland but have never plucked up the courage to plug it in...too many painful warnings of burnt fingers and lost finger prints (not very useful unless you are going to take up cat burgulary...).

Well, I found the gun and some glue sticks and went to plug it in...I had prepared my desk with a glass mat, a silicone mat and a sheet of baking paper, I wasn't taking any chances.. Now I have a few bits tucked away under the desk, my embossing boards and whisper inks to name but a few, and when I saw them, that was when it hit me, the light bulb switched on and my brain started whirring...What If ?????

I have a full two sets of Fiskars texture plates and I have no background stamps....would it be possible to make my own stamps from hot glue and texture plates...well I had to try didn't I !!!

So I took a plate and melted some glue onto it....turned it over onto the baking paper and pressed...

So this was when I realised that the glue wouldn't just lift off...whoops....oh well, we learn from our mistakes don't we..

For attempt number 2 I used some kitchen paper to wipe over the plate with some cooking oil...SUCCESS !!!!
I need a bit more practice and I would also like to see what I can do with some freebie embossing boards I have got from magazines over the years...but in the meantime, this is what I have managed...I particularly liked the feathers and the scales would look great with a fishy card...

As I said at the beginning...I do so love light bulb moments....now to work out how to remove the first attempt from the plate...a heat gun to soften the glue maybe...

Time flies....

...when you have things planned to do. I can't believe how fast a week can go leaving me with so much undone that was meant to be done. Here we are on another Saturday which means I have been spending time over with the Dragonettes in the Stamping Dragon Designs Facebook group.

The pick of the week this time was a bouquet border quote....I love these border quotes, they are so versatile while being really pretty. They look as good as part of an 8"x8" card layout as they do on a 6"x4" card....on a 12"x12" scrapbook page as on a 6"x6" page. Not to mention that they are ideal to make a bookmark out of or a money wallet etc..

I used it as an A5 card, using another SDD design, the backing paper was from the Whimsical Christmas kit. It needs very little added and I just used a self adhesive lacy pink ribbon which I added some pearls to and then finished it with a few paper flowers. The design can be bought from the SDD store (link in the sidebar) and at the moment it is reduced to just 68 pence, a real bargain.

We would love it if you would join us in the fun over at the facebook group..link again in the sidebar...there are fun challenges and puzzles and loyalty points to be earnt just for joining in..I hope to see you there.. love and hugs xx

If today is Saturday then it must mean Dragons....

....let me explain. Saturday is my DT day on the Stamping Dragon Designs Facebook group but it is not all about dragons. The dragon family are often in residence but they share the limelight with some more amazing designs, there are scrapbook papers and elements...quote borders...digi stamps...mats...ready to use card designs...and much much more..

I have the privilege of being on the design team for the facebook group but was a member before that, it is so very friendly there with chat and jokes and music, not to mention the designs and inspiration from the Dragon Queen...

One of the things we do on the DT is to take a pick of the week to make something with to share on our days. This means that we end up with seven makes using the same image but used in different ways....showing how versatile the designs are.

So here is todays DT make from me...

You can find this

For this I did a simple DL card with a bit of matting and layering and then added some flowers and a bow...looking back at it, as I said in group, it reminded me of Starburst sweet colours and I have had a craving for them since...

Well that is me for today...I will be trying to get here more often, blogging is still not an automatic thought to me (as I am sure you can tell) but I am working on it.

See you soon xx
